Biography

Dr. Lisa L. Kirkpatrick serves as Vice Provost for Student and Campus Life at Seattle. She provides strategic leadership for key areas that advance student development, belonging, well-being and success. Grounded in Seattle University's Jesuit mission of educating the whole person and empowering leaders for a just and humane world, she partners with students, faculty and staff to foster an inclusive, engaging and transformative student experience. Her work focuses on creating conditions in which all students can thrive academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually while developing the knowledge, skills and sense of purpose needed to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the world. 

Prior to joining Seattle University, Dr. Kirkpatrick dedicated more than three decades to St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas, where she most recently served as Vice President for Student Affairs and Administration. A member of the president's cabinet, she provided leadership for a broad portfolio that included student affairs, campus operations and institutional initiatives supporting student success, belonging, wellness, safety and community engagement.

Throughout her career, Dr. Kirkpatrick has championed a student-centered philosophy grounded in care, hospitality, inclusion and leadership development. She has led strategic planning efforts, student success initiatives, staff formation programs and major campus development projects, while serving as a trusted partner to students, faculty and staff. Her leadership seeks to foster community, strengthen institutional mission and create environments where students are empowered to reach their full potential.

Previously, Dr. Kirkpatrick served as chair of the Board of Governors of the Holy Cross Institute, visiting faculty member for the University of San Diego's Catholic Mission Integration Institute and adjunct instructor in graduate programs in higher education and student affairs at both private and public institutions.

Dr. Kirkpatrick earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism/Public Relations and a Master of Education in College Student Personnel from Ohio University. She earned her Ph.D. in Education from Texas State University, where her research explored hospitality, care and human dignity. She is a graduate of Harvard University's Institute for Management and Leadership in Education, the Council for Independent Colleges Senior Leadership Academy, Leadership Austin and the ACPA Institute Leading with a Racial and Social Justice Lens.

A scholar-practitioner in Catholic higher education, Dr. Kirkpatrick's work explores how mission, values and social thought shape the student experience and the practice of student development. She is co-editor of Student Life in Catholic Higher Education: Advancing Good Practice and frequently presents on topics including leadership, student development, belonging, spirituality, mission integration and co-curricular learning.
