Maura B. Mast, PhD, is the 23rd president of Seattle University. An award-winning educator and accomplished scholar, Dr. Mast has dedicated her career to advancing student success in mathematics and promoting the belief that mathematics can be a tool for addressing inequality and expanding opportunity.

Dr. Mast co-edited a book celebrating a century of women’s contributions to mathematics and co-authored Common Sense Mathematics, a textbook recognized with the Mathematical Association of America’s Daniel Solow Author’s Award in 2022 for its impact on undergraduate education. In recognition of her support for women in the field, she was named a Fellow of the Association for Women in Mathematics in 2019. Dr. Mast is also a member of the Clavius Mathematics Group, an international community of Catholic mathematicians that explores both mathematical research and the relationship between faith and reason.
