Randall Kennedy was born in Columbia, South Carolina. For high school, he attended St. Albans School for Boys in Washington, D.C. For college, he attended Princeton University. He attended Balliol College, Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar and received his legal education at Yale Law School. He served as a law clerk to Judge J. Skelly Wright of the United States Court of Appeals and Justice Thurgood Marshall of the United States Supreme Court. Kennedy joined the faculty of Harvard Law School in 1984 and is currently the holder of the Michael R. Klein Professorship. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society, Kennedy has been awarded honorary degrees by Princeton University and the University of Chicago. He is the author of seven books, the most recent of which is “Say It Loud! On Race, Law, History, and Culture.”

In 2025 the Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration was held on January 23, 2025. The commemoration featured a keynote address from acclaimed historian and scholar, Dr. Lerone A. Martin of Stanford University. Also featured were remarks from senior leadership and a captivating musical performance by Eden Pawlos, a talented student from Key to Change.
2024 Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration
The 2024 Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration was held on January 16, 2024. The commemoration featured remarks from senior leadership, a musical performance by esteemed Professor Quinton Morris, and a keynote address by renowned Professor Robin D. G. Kelley.
