Students will always be supported regardless of their level of knowledge in each topic. However, students must be at least in grade nine or higher in order to apply.
The Albers Summer Business Institute is open to current 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students who will be 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students in the following academic year.
You will need to complete an electronic application through our Admissions system. We will not be able to process paper applications. Yes, we hold information sessions during the months of January, February, and March for prospective pre-college students. You can use our registration form to sign up for an information session. The priority deadline for applications to both the residential program and virtual program is April 15, 2022. The general application deadline for the virtual program is May 31, 2022, however, there will be a limited number of spots available for general application acceptance as it is based on applications we receive by April 15, 2022.
Yes, students who successfully complete the program will receive 3 college credits in business management for their participation.
Yes, we accept students all across Washington state and across the United States. When we create groups for the projects we balance the location of each student to help you build your network and meet new people.
Yes, colleges and employers like to see that you're using your summers wisely. Participating in a summer enrichment program helps to show that you're interested in your own growth and development as a person.
Awarding high school credit is dependent on your school and/or district. If you would like to receive high school credit for participation then please contact your guidance counselor to start the process. We are happy to work with them in translating your participation into the appropriate high school credits.
Yes, throughout the program you will meet our corporate partners, sponsors, and University alumni who are all members of the business community. By creating connections with them you can begin building your network and even connect with them on LinkedIn for future opportunities for engagement and learning.
The tuition of the residential program is $1,950 and the virtual program is $1,250. However, thanks to the support of our sponsors, students are able to receive tiered equitable scholarship aid based on their circumstances for the cost of participation. The balance of your tuition would need to be paid by June 3, 2022. However, all students are required to make payment on the $50 non-refundable deposit by May 31, 2022 to reserve their spot.
Yes, we provide equitable tiered scholarships to support students in attending the program based on their family circumstances. This allows you and your family to pay the amount that is most appropriate to your family's circumstances.
The tuition (not including the deposit) for the residential program is $1,950 per student. This includes everything related to the program besides transportation to and from campus on the first and last day.

During the application process, you will be able to provide information about your family circumstances and need so we can award an equitable scholarship for participation. This does no impact whether or not you're accepted but does allow us to begin the process of setting up your award letter and the payment system. You can let us know of changes up to the date of your deposit deadline.
The deposit for priority application students is due on May 31, 2022. If we have not received your deposit and registration packet by this date then we will assume you are no longer interested in participating and will move a student from the waitlist to the attending list.
During the Albers Summer Business Institute students participate in Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Data Analytics, Accounting, Economics, Management, Financial Literacy, Career Development, College Planning, and Leadership Development.
During a virtual program, real-time courses are attended via a Zoom link that they will receive access to via Canvas. They will use this link each day to attend the large group sessions. Afternoon sessions with their team will be conducted using their Program Advisor's Microsoft Teams link which can be found by visiting https://teams.microsoft.com/.
During a residential program, real-time courses are attended on campus in the Pigott Building. Students will walk to class each day after breakfast and attend sessions in the building. They will also have a Microsoft Teams link but their team meetings will be conducted throughout campus and not online.
Yes, virtual program Zoom videos will be recorded and shared only in Canvas for students who would like to re-watch the material to help their understanding.
Currently, we do not anticipate recording the residential program sessions.
Canvas is a learning management system that allows students to complete assignments, watch videos, and much more.
Yes, each student will receive a Seattle U ID and email address. These two are essential for them accessing their courses and their credits when they are ready to transfer them.
All courses are taught by University faculty who come from their respective industries. Each faculty teaches either at the undergraduate or graduate level in the Albers School of Business and Economics at Seattle University. Also, each faculty member is passionate about the mission of our programs and supporting youth in gaining access to higher education.
A program advisor is your support network as a student in the program. The Program Advisors report directly to the Director of the program and help you with assignments, activities, serves as a mentor and adult friend to you during the week. They are there to help you have the best experience possible and are all passionate about your success.
The program advisors are undergraduates in the Albers School of Business and Economics. They each come with their own perspectives and experiences that create a well-rounded team of individuals to support your success. In some cases, they were in your shoes not too long ago as three of our 2021 program advisors were former Summer Business Institute participants.
Duron Jones serves as the Director of the Albers Summer Business Institute and has served as the director since 2014. Prior to that, he managed the University's high school programs for the Center for Community Engagement from 2011 to 2014. He also serves as an adjunct faculty for management with a focus specifically on leadership development and social entrepreneurship.
Admission decisions for Albers Summer Business Institute will be posted no later than May 15, 2022, to your Seattle University Admission Portal. However, once a decision is made about your application you will receive an email asking you to check your portal.
Once you're accepted you will need to confirm your acceptance of the decision inside of the portal. Then you will need to complete your registration paperwork and pay your deposit by May 31, 2022. You can find more information about the steps on the Admitted Students page.
Yes, you can cancel your attendance in the program prior to the start of the program without it negatively impacting your transcript. However, if you cancel your attendance after the program has begun then it will negatively impact your transcript.
Deposits for attending the program are non-refundable and are used to save your seat in the program.
Yes, the tuition paid is refundable until June 17, 2022. After June 17, 2022, we can no longer refund tuition as we would have already booked the resources associated with the student's participation in the program.
Students who are a citizen of the United States but are currently living abroad may still apply for acceptance to both the residential and virtual program. However, you are responsible for your own transportation to campus for the first day and from campus on the last day of the residential program.
Students who are not a citizen of the United States but are currently enrolled in a high school in the United States at the time of applying are eligible for acceptance into the program.
The Albers Summer Business Institute is only open to students who are: (1) citizens of the United States, or (2) attending a United States high school, regardless of citizenship. However, we are exploring additional programs for the future that will provide opportunities for international students to participate.
We do provide support and guidance in the college application process to all alumni of Pre-college programs at Seattle University. This includes but isn't limited to understanding FAFSA, college application, and scholarship searching guidance.
If you would like to attend Seattle University as your college of choice then please let the Director, Duron Jones, know as soon as possible. We will support you in having a successful application process with Seattle University. If you apply without notifying the Director you will still be marked as a pre-college student in the system, however, to ensure the Director and the pre-college team is aware, it is best to advocate for yourself and let us know you've applied so we may advocate on your behalf in certain areas.
Yes, face coverings are required indoors while students participate in the program. Seattle University’s COVID-19 Face Covering Policy is adopted pursuant to the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) workplace requirements for preventing COVID-19, the Washington State Department of Health Order of the Secretary of Health, and Governor Inslee’s Proclamation for Institutions of Higher Education. Seattle University’s Face Covering Policy is intended to help control and prevent the spread of COVID-19 on the Seattle U campus and the broader community.
Seattle University requires all students, faculty, and staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with an authorized vaccine, unless the individual has an approved authorized exemption.
Our policy is in place in an effort to help protect the health and safety of the Seattle University community and the general public by preventing the transmission of COVID-19 through effective and safe authorized vaccines and to allow the University to engage in in-person instruction, lectures, research, operations, co-curricular activities and other activities by being a “fully vaccinated campus” under Governor Inslee’s Proclamation for Institutions of Higher Education (20-12.3).
Students with an approved authorized exemption will need to have a negative test result within at least 24 hours of them attending the real-time sessions. Most tests provide results within 48 hours. We recommend going to a testing site by June 24, 2022, so that you can have your results prior to arrival on June 26, 2022, for residential programs.
If a student has COVID-like symptoms during the program then they will be given a single residential room, their parent/guardian will be informed, and the student will be asked to take a COVID-19 test at our onsite testing facility. While in quarantine the student will be able to attend lectures virtually and work with their teammates virtually.
A positive test result would require parents/guardians to pick their child up from the program and the implementation of special accommodations. A negative test result will allow the student to return to full participation in the program.
