It is with much enthusiasm and gratitude that we prepare to welcome Bishop McElroy to campus on Monday, March 28. Drawing from the wisdom, reflection and richness of global Catholicism, Bishop McElroy identifies both the ruptures, and the potential paths open to us for healing, reconciliation, and a more hopeful vision for a church transformed.

Bishop McElroy identifies three ruptures — "the disruption of ecclesial life, the overpowering recognition that we do not live in a society of authentic solidarity, and the devastating assault that the pandemic has visited upon our false sense and sources of security" — that force us to recognize that our ecclesial structures will not be recovered so much as they will be transformed, of necessity. The themes that surfaced from the Latin American Bishop's Conference (CELAM) at their 2007 meeting in Aparecida, Brazil, are retrieved for guidance on this journey. Read more in the National Catholic Reporter.
