Observing Juneteenth
Today, June 19, Seattle University joins other communities nationwide in observing Juneteenth, which marks the day in 1865 when news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after slavery was officially abolished in the U.S.
New Federal Travel Ban and Support for Non-Citizen Community Members
Yesterday, the Trump administration announced a new travel ban that will significantly impact individuals from several countries and could potentially affect members of our campus community.
Decision to Move to a Unified Academic Calendar
Earlier today, the Seattle University Board of Trustees voted unanimously to endorse the decision to move the university towards a unified academic calendar on a semester model, and to do so as expeditiously as reasonably possible and no earlier than the fall term of 2027.
2025 Commencement Speakers
As we move through May, we begin to turn our attention to commencement. Our colleagues and students in the School of Law will get this season of celebration started with their commencement ceremony this Saturday, followed by our undergraduate and graduate ceremonies on June 16.

Recent Federal Actions on Student Visas
Seattle University is aware of reports that the U.S. government is cancelling some F-1 and J-1 student visas and F-1 and J-1 immigration records are being terminated in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
