First Year Commuter Connections Family Kickoff
Our Commuter Connections Family Kickoff is for first-year commuter students and their parents and families. As a local community member and a new student, we are excited to connect you with resources available specifically for commuter students! You'll have the chance to:
- Meet fellow first-year commuter students and learn where they live in the area - maybe even find a commuter buddy!
- Learn about Transportation & Parking resources, including bike storage, the ORCA Transit Pass, and virtual parking permits!
- Join a walking tour of commuter-specific spaces and resources on campus!
- Connect with fellow local Redhawk families at a sweet treat social!
Event: Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 12:45pm-4:00pm

- Guests: Students can include up to 2 guests when they RSVP. There is no fee for students or guests to attend this event.
- RSVP Deadline: July 31, 2025 at 11:59pm PT

ARRIVAL
If you are planning to park, please park in the Broadway Garage and follow the directions in your email to navigate to the Student Center. ADA Parking is available in our Chapel Lot. If you plan to use public transit, please use King County’s Trip Planner.
CHECK-IN
Check-In for all students and guests will take place in the Student Center. You will receive more details about the check-in location in an email closer to the event date.
PARKING
Parking on campus during the day will be free for students and their guests while attending this event. We will send you a text message and email on the morning of the event that includes the parking permit link.
Redhawk Launch and the Commuter Connections Family Kickoff are two different experiences designed to set you up for college success:
- 🚀 Redhawk Launch is your chance to dive into all things college transition. From navigating academics to building new friendships, it’s the perfect way to start your Redhawk journey feeling confident and connected.
- 🚗 Commuter Connections Family Kickoff is tailored to students who won’t be living on campus. You’ll discover exclusive commuter spaces and get insider tips for thriving as a commuter.
Attending both means you’ll gain a fuller toolkit for navigating college life—on campus and beyond.

Students and their guests will join a walking tour of commuter-specific resources on campus. This includes visiting the Links - physical student community spaces located throughout campus that support the day-to-day needs of our various student populations including commuters. We encourage you to wear comfortable clothing for an indoor/outdoor walk around campus (rain or shine!), including somewhat steep hills. When you submit your RSVP, Please let us know if you need any accomodations for your tour. |
2:30pm-3:15pm | Commuter Student Mixer |
After the tour, students and guests will separate for different sessions. Students will join a social mixer featuring speedfriending games, good laughs, and great company. You'll also learn where fellow first-year commuter students live in the area and maybe even find a commuter buddy! |
3:20pm-4:00pm | Sweet Treat Social | Students will meet back up with their guests while enjoying sweet refreshments and mingling with campus leaders. |
