Dear Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to announce that Chris Van Liew has agreed to serve as Seattle University’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Vice President of Information Technology. In this role, Chris will be responsible for leading Information Technology Services in delivering technology services and maintaining a secure infrastructure that meets users’ needs, leverages efficiencies in operations and supports innovation in teaching, learning and scholarship. Chris will begin his appointment this Wednesday, June 15.

With more than 20 years of experience in information technology and a decade in leadership roles, Chris has distinguished himself as a highly effective technology executive who empowers organizational success through IT strategy and operational excellence. Most recently, Chris served as CIO for Weyerhaeuser. His experience and values align with Seattle University, and his leadership and vision will be critical in supporting and advancing the university’s mission.

Chris received his bachelor’s in science in business administration from Oregon State University. He comes to Seattle University after working in Weyerhaeuser’s information technology group for nearly 25 years. He currently serves as a member of the Multi-Care Health System’s East Pierce Regional Board and System-wide Quality and Safety Committee.

I am grateful to the faculty and staff who participated in the search process including members of the search committee (listed below) and the search committee chair, Vice President for University Planning and Interim Provost Bob Dullea.

Chris is excited to join Seattle University and we look forward to having his leadership in this critical role as we continue working to optimize our technology infrastructure, services and support. Please join with me in welcoming Chris to the Seattle University community.
