With a Graduate Certificate in Accounting, you can gain general or specialized knowledge in accounting, further your professional formation, and work toward professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, CISA, CMA, or EA. Or simply use accounting knowledge gained at the Albers School of Business and Economics to enhance your success in related management roles.

Learning Competencies

Once you complete this program, you’ll be able to:

LC1. Evaluate the implications of an economic event by applying the principles you learn here

LC2. Synthesize accounting information and place it in context with other business functions to help make decisions.

LC3. Weigh the ethical, stakeholder and stewardship implications of alternative accounting decisions.

LC4. Determine how strategic risks relate to financial reporting, tax and audit using literature, surveys and other research data.

Certificate Requirements

This certificate requires at least 15 credit hours of graduate courses.

  • Introduction to Financial Accounting, ACCT 5000 (Fundamentals of Accounting), or MBA 5005/OMBA 5005/BRMB 5005 (Accounting for Business)
  • ACCT 5110: Intermediate Financial Accounting I
  • ACCT 5120: Intermediate Financial Accounting II*
  • ACCT 5130: Managerial Cost Accounting
  • ACCT 5140: Auditing I
  • ACCT 5150: Federal Taxation I

NOTE: *Another course may substitute for ACCT 5120 with Program Director permission.
