images of two logosI love being a Couples and Family Therapy educator! My pronouns are she/her. I identify as a Euro-American, heterosexual, cis-gendered female who is able bodied and middle class. I believe culture and context are important considerations in all aspects of academic and clinical life. I strive to lead a just couples and family therapy program by identifying my privileges and amplifying marginalized voices. My vocation as an academic, specifically as a couple and family therapy instructor, researcher, and supervisor, aligns with Seattle University’s vision to educate the whole person and empower leaders for a just and humane world. My passion is to work with students who desire to use systemic therapy in order to provide effective, ethical, and compassionate care to all. I enjoy teaching, supervising, and mentoring clinical students who become the next generation of therapists. My teaching style combines didactic lectures and cooperative learning approaches. Collaborative learning de-emphasizes a competitive classroom atmosphere, instead increasing team learning and support. My classes prioritize a growth mindset. A strength-based, narrative model informs my teaching, research, and clinical work. I am a qualitative researcher. My scholarship gives voice to accounts of resilience, which aids therapists in bolstering their clients’ strengths.
