Professor Guardiola-Sáenz was born and raised in the borderlands between Mexico and the United States, her experience of borders and bridges—of diversity and hybridity—has shaped both her life and her critical lenses for interpreting the Bible. She lives her vocation in the borderlands of Academia and Church. Her main academic and teaching interests are Latinx readings of the Gospels, representations of women in scriptures, cultural interpretations of Jesus, biblical spiritualities, and decolonial hermeneutics.

Her most recent book, Latinx Perspectives on the New Testament, was published in 2022, and she is currently working on a volume on contextual readings of the Gospel of John, John @ contexts. She is actively involved with the Hispanic Summer Program and the Hispanic Theological Initiative, teaching and mentoring the next generation of Latinx Bible scholars/ministers.

She has been a faculty member of the Theology and Religious Studies Department since 2008. She earned her Ph.D. in New Testament from Vanderbilt University.
