Biography

Lucas Sharma, SJ, studies the relationship between contemporary American Catholic identity and the institutional Roman Catholic Church. He is also interested social theory, especially the work of Michel Foucault. He received an MA in Sociology from Loyola University Chicago. His Master’s Thesis at LUC explored how two parishes formed cultures around politics. In addition, Mr. Sharma earned a MA in Philosophy from Fordham University. There, his Master’s Thesis Special Project brought together political theory from Hannah Arendt, Michel Foucault, and Judith Butler to develop a theory of action to combat a political culture of lies. In addition to teaching sociology, he is a Research Fellow with the Institute for Catholic Thought and Culture. He also serves as an editor to Conversations on Jesuit Higher Education. Mr. Sharma is a Jesuit-in-Formation training to be a priest in the Jesuits West Province of the Society of Jesus
